"Woodland Redbud Trees, Shawnee Mission Park, Johnson County, Kansas" by Catherine Sherman. Redbud trees in flower brighten the awakening Spring forest in Shawnee Mission Park, Lenexa, Kansas. A mowed field in front of the woods provides a great view. Redbud bloom in a variety of red, magenta and purple flowers. There are even some white redbud trees. Cercis canadensis, the eastern redbud, is a large deciduous shrub or small tree, native to eastern North America from southern Ontario, south to northern Florida but which can thrive as far west as California. It is the state tree of Oklahoma.
