World's First Outdoor Christmas Tree 1904 Holiday Card

The world's first electrically-lighted, outdoor Christmas tree was invented near San Diego, CA - at the seaside resort, the Hotel Del Coronado in 1904. Until that time, indoor Christmas trees were illuminated by candles, which were being replaced with the new electric strings of lights. A local San Diego woman suggested to the hotel staff that they decorate a Norfolk Pine on the hotel lawn with the new electric lights...and the rest is history! I found the original black and white photo of this historic invention online, and wanted to bring life, colour and light to it. Enjoy!
