Yellow cattleya orchids grow in a rock wall in a garden outside of Hilo on the island of Hawaii. The labellum (lip) of this orchid is golden yellow, while the other petals are a pale peachy in colour.
Cattleya is a genus of orchids from Costa Rica south to Argentina.
Orchidaceae is one of the two largest families of flowering plants, along with the Asteraceae. It contains about 28,000 currently accepted species distributed across 763 genera. Orchids are found in almost every habitat on Earth except glaciers. The world's richest diversity of orchid genera and species is found in the tropics.
