Young Sun Parakeet or Conure Aratinga solstitialis iPhone Case

This image is a finely detailed natural history illustration of a young Sun Parakeet, historically referred to in French as “Guarouba dans son jeune âge.” The artwork captures the bird perched gracefully on a textured branch, showcasing both anatomical precision and aesthetic refinement typical of early scientific illustration. The parakeet is depicted in its juvenile stage, which differs subtly from the more vibrant adult coloration. Its plumage is predominantly a warm golden-yellow, with hints of green and deep blue on the wings and tail. These cooler tones—especially the dark blue flight feathers—contrast elegantly with the softer yellow body, indicating the transitional phase before the bird reaches full adult brilliance. The curved black beak and attentive eye lend the bird a sense of alertness and vitality. This illustration is attributed to Jacques Barraband, a renowned artist known for his contributions to ornithological works in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His work often appeared in scientific volumes dedicated to documenting exotic bird species, combining artistic beauty with scientific accuracy. Native to northeastern South America, particularly regions of Brazil and Guyana, the Sun Parakeet inhabits tropical savannas and forests. Juveniles like the one shown here are less vividly coloured than adults, which develop striking orange and yellow plumage as they mature. Today, the species is admired for its beauty but is also considered endangered due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade. Overall, the image represents both a scientific record and a work of art, preserving the delicate features of a young Sun Parakeet for study and admiration.
