Young Woman Holding a Black Cat (by Gwen John) Watch
This design features a painting by Welsh artist Gwendolen Mary John (1876–1939), who worked in France for most of her career. It shows a young woman wearing a dark blue dress with a black cat resting on her knee. The sitter was a neighbour of Gwen John's in Meudon, near Paris: this woman was the artist's most frequently used model, yet she is rarely mentioned in John's correspondence, so her name remains unknown. The original work was completed circa 1920.
