The spiritual meaning of frogs is one of joy, good luck, environmental balance, natural health and medicine, music, romantic love, moon magic, friendship and community. Frogs are associated with elemental nature magic and the powers of transformation. Frogs and other amphibians begin life as an egg, hatch as water-dependent larvae (ie, frog tadpoles or pollywogs), and eventually change into adults that breathe air and can live on land (or in trees). Even tree frogs that inhabit the upper canopies need to spend their youth in water, even if it's just a puddle on a leaf. Tree frogs often lay their eggs right above water, so that the tadpoles will drop into the water as soon as they hatch. In folklore and ancient medicine, frogs represent organic or natural health in part due to their sensitive skins, which at one time were used by shamans in medicine rituals. In many cultures frogs are also considered fortunate for money, and in Feng Shui black is the colour for both water and wealth.
