With over 110,000 Facebook shares, this cartoon about a math class rebel struck the funny bone of math teachers, educators and math nerds all over the world. Creator Frank Mariani had a hunch that many people weren't grasping the concept behind the "flatten the curve" graphic used during the COVID-19 pandemic. So he created this cartoon late one night, posted it on his Facebook page hoping to get a few likes. Frank woke up to 100 shares before noon which blossomed to almost 3000 by midnight. In one week his hope for a "few likes" of a cartoon post inspired by a virus had gone viral itself with over 38,000 shares! But there's more. A celebrated rock star astrophysicist liked it, posted it, and another phenomenal 71,000 shares were garnered. It's easy to see why this hit cartoon drives home the point that indeed, math matters!
