Jolene is an artist who started creating illustrations after working for over 15 years in corporate America creating illustrations that looked nice…but that I wasn’t passionate about. Once I discovered the Grateful Dead in May of 2022, the ball was rolling. The idea was to listen to a new Dead song each day that I hadn’t heard before and create a small doodle illustration based on how I interpreted the music. I thought this would be a fun way to dig into my creative energy again and would be fun for the Deadhead community, in general, to see how I perceived the music through a set of fresh eyes. This is what led me to create my first poster. I had managed to find the contact information for several members of the Billy Strings merchandise team. Knowing I would be at Renewal in September of 2022, I set out to create a custom poster set for them that showcased my skill set so I could possibly be considered for future projects for the artist. They loved the duo I put together and it’s snowballed from there! That set is now discontinued due to copyright issues with selling items that contain the band’s name but you can see the design below. I’ve branched out into creating custom apparel, stickers, posters for other bands, custom lyric-based illustrations, and collaborations with other artists. I hope to create my first foil print at the beginning of the new year. I look forward to seeing what kind of crazy designs I’ll come up with next!
