About
Founded by Julio C. Tello on September 4th 2007, the Karikuy Organization was created with the vision of bringing people from all walks of life together to experience Peru like few have. From remote ceremonies to hidden metropolitan hot spots, Karikuy guides you in exploring Peru in ways that few agencies do. Karikuy drops you in the center of one of the most colorful cultures on earth, aiming to widen your view of the world through social and traditional tourism.
An old Inca saying defines the organization and its goals, Karikuy; "to live life with an open heart". Karikuy applies this motto in the way business is conducted, always thoughtful of our customers who in turn become friends and collaborators. More then just a business Karikuy is phase 1 of a broader project of social development which you can read more about on this web site. Karikuys' survival as a company and charity is in your hands, only your support and business can accelerate the projects Karikuy is organizing. Through tourism and exploration we invite you to experience Peru with Karikuy as your guide, with us you will not be a passing tourist, but fully enveloped in the activities and culture surrounding you.
Peru has seen a boom in it's tourism industry since the start of the millennium, however most current tour companies are taking advantage of this growth and shuttling tourists through the country in assembly line fashion, profits drive these international companies, not the end result of your experiences in Peru. With Karikuy you will meet the people who call Peru home, you will sing, dance and laugh with us. Experience the thrill of mountain biking through the Andes with us, or the fear of driving along steep mountain passes, to the humbling effect of watching sunrise over Machu Picchu.
At Karikuy we offer you in-country prices, you pay what a Peruvian would for food and access to archaeological sites and other services. Where do we profit? The profit goes straight to your guides and the ultimate vision of Julio c. Tello which you can read more about below. The benefits of this system is that you have more capital left to spend on the people who need it most in Peru. Because whether you purchase a hand made belt or a piece of Inca jewelry in the Andes, you will be directly supporting those who make it through your purchases. So if your looking to make Peru your next travel destination consider Karikuy as your hosts and get more out of your vacation, with us you'll experience how to live what the Incas called Karikuy.
